Close to the island of Rügen and flanked by Strela Sound (“Strelasund”), The Bay of Greifswalder is a popular fishing and water sport resort but also a unique habitat for rare animals and plants. Huge swarms of sea creatures rest there over winter, thousands of swans moult in the area and rare terns rear their chicks in the waters of the shallow bay. On a mission by land, sea and air, Florian Hoffmann from the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) is a guardian for the protected area. We accompany him throughout the year as he gives a unique insight into the strictly protected areas, and experience the challenges he must overcome.
