In the North-East of Germany agriculture has been practiced for centuries. After the fall of the Berlin Wall the fields were able to recover from intensive use in the GDR. Nature reserves have been established and family farms converted to organic farming. But the global demand for land has also reached the North of Brandenburg. The state now sells country to large-scale foreign investors. Monocultures, windmills, animal farms and biogas plants are changing – and industrialising - the landscape. Volker Koepp‘s film deals with the people living in this sparsely populated area. He visits his immediate neighbours, villagers, new inhabitants, farmers and environmentalists. They discuss their everyday lives, worries and visions. Since the time of novelist Theodor Fontane, the traumas of the world may now also be seen in every lake in the region.
