Déni is trying to find himself. His soul-search takes him back to his childhood in the snowy landscapes of Kazakhstan. In an apartment decorated with thick drapes and wildly coloured bric-a-brac he encounters his Chechen family. At the mosque, or in the boxing gym, he is surprised by the parade of masculinity, the traditional codes and close bonds of the men of his “clan”. They all seem to be virile and settled in their lives, whilst he is still struggling to find his place.
